  •    This project is caused by the paradigm shift of urban living in Bangkok, the incremental living expenses, the need to create more alternative income, the concentration of medical services for the elderly, the traffic congestion, etc. The owner of the project came to us with a strong intention to deliver a solution to his expanded family by building a small community space for all members right at the city rim. The requirements begin with (1) a unit for his parents and his sister who will remain the soul of family unity, (2) a unit for his brother’s family, (3) the flexible commercial space provided once the city is expanded, (4) his office for 8 people, (5) his small efficient production house for his broadcasting career, (6) a coaching and training space, and (7) his family living unit. As a result, one requirement may contradict to some others by ways of different generations and different attitudes, but it is not wise to let everyone live on his/her own. So it comes to a simple idea for this small community, they want to feel that they still stay close to each other; they want to get together only certain occasions; and they can live their live as they are pleased without disturbing the others. In other terms, “let there be space between us, then we remain strong”. The design then makes clear between the footprint of the building and the rest of the land plot, so it is easy to separate the cars from the pedestrian, the utility inlets and the utility outlets. Also the building design sorts out the privacy of each family through the horizontal organization (plans) and classifies the typologies of use through the vertical organization (sections).
