  • Dream of a City This proposal intends to expand its significance beyond the competition framework regarding the site of the Packard Motor Plant. We want to give a vision in resurrecting Detroit like the Renaissance era in which the people at the time redrew their civilization from the studies of historical ruins. In our view of bringing life back to the city, like Aldo Rossi's theory in his book The Architecture of the City, it is important to contemplate the conception of "Totality" – that is to say the 'body and soul' of the city must come into existence as a whole. Further from Rossi's work, we also pay a great deal of interest in the idea of the Situationist city, which addresses diverse values from sub cultures that co-exist along the mainstream one in order to fulfill social authorities of the city, as well as how we acknowledge city life through our physical and mental experiences. As a result we think that if our proposal speaks of architectural solutions only, it may fall short to succeed our goal. Hence our attempt for this proposal is to seek for the other crucial answers apart from architectural design, that are how to establish memories, mindsets, mentalities, and dreams of Detroit.
